Tattoo pricing is not based on surface area alone. Clear details make it easier for the artist to judge whether an idea suits your intended placement, budget and available time.

Five factors that shape a tattoo estimate

  1. Placement and size: the same design changes when it follows an arm, shoulder, back or rib area. Give centimetres or a clear scale reference.
  2. Detail and line density: a small tattoo can still require careful spacing for fine lines, faces, petals or layered shading to remain readable.
  3. Black and grey or colour: colour range, saturation and the number of layers affect how a piece is planned and completed.
  4. Composition on the body: artwork needs to respond to skin curves, movement and clothing, rather than simply placing a flat image on the body.
  5. One or several sessions: larger or more complex work may need to be arranged over more than one appointment.

Trois Tattoo Studio reviews the idea, placement, size and reference direction before confirming a quote or estimate through WhatsApp.

How to mention a budget

You can state a range that feels comfortable. It helps identify whether to preserve certain details, adjust the scale, simplify the direction or consider a different arrangement. It is more useful than asking only for a number.

For example: “I am considering a roughly 10cm black and grey bird on the forearm, with some negative space. My budget is around this range; if that does not suit the idea, could you suggest an appropriate scale or direction?”

When are the deposit and date confirmed?

A WhatsApp enquiry is not an appointment by itself. Before payment, confirm the artist, design direction, placement, scale, quote or estimate, deposit terms and date together. The individual WhatsApp confirmation is the controlling arrangement.

If the subject, placement, size or detail changes substantially after confirmation, the scope and time may need to be reassessed. This gives the artist enough time to make a considered piece rather than rushing decisions on the day.

Price and booking FAQs

Why cannot a final price be given from one image?

The same subject can require different work depending on placement, dimensions, detail and colour. A placement and approximate size are needed before it can be assessed.

Can I enquire with a limited budget?

Yes. State a comfortable range so the artist can assess whether the scale, detail or direction should change. Individual arrangements are confirmed on WhatsApp.

When is a deposit confirmed?

Confirm the design direction, quote or estimate, deposit terms and date together in WhatsApp before treating an appointment as confirmed.
