Start with your artist’s instructions
Placement, scale, skin response and dressings differ from one tattoo to another. Ask about the dressing, cleaning and next steps before you leave; you can also ask follow-up questions on WhatsApp afterwards.
Touching, cleaning and clothing
Wash your hands before touching the tattoo and clean it gently as instructed on the day. Avoid scratching, picking or repeatedly touching it. Choose clean, comfortable clothing that does not continually rub the area, so the skin has room to settle.
Activity and environment
Avoid soaking, swimming, saunas and prolonged sun in the early healing stage. Consider whether sweat, clothing or equipment will repeatedly rub the tattoo when exercising. If you are unsure, send a photo or describe the situation to your artist first.
When to seek help

Common questions
What should I do first after a tattoo?
Follow the individual instructions your artist gives you on the day. In general, wash your hands before touching the tattoo and follow their directions for the dressing, cleaning and moisturising.
Can I swim, bathe or use a sauna while it heals?
Avoid soaking, swimming, saunas and prolonged sun while the skin is not yet settled, to reduce irritation and infection risk. Ask your artist about your individual healing timeline.
Can I exercise?
It depends on the placement, friction from clothing and sweat. Avoid repeated rubbing or prolonged occlusion of the tattoo in the early healing stage; ask your artist if you are unsure.
